NOTES FROM YATELEY PARISH RECORDS

I have had to be guided by the research from other Ridgers family historians as far as the top of our tree is concerned and have not viewed or confirmed the early Ridgers Crondall baptisms.
The Yateley records start from 1636 and show the marriage of Crondall born Lawrence Rydyar to Joan Ellis in 1657. Some later records describe family members as "from Hawley" then a hamlet in Yateley parish with its boundaries very close to Crookham and Crondall.
The present-day town of Fleet did not exist until the 19th century and had a large area including Fleet Mill as a part of Hawley. It is probable that a number of the families on the early Yateley parish register lived nearby.
The Ridgers name has been frequently misspelled both by parish clerks who often had to write the name as they heard it and modern transcribers with the difficult task of deciphering various styles of handwriting.
